Mythology links around the Web
Note: This page is
seldom under construction!!
I actually got around to doing something else with this page. I've
compiled a short list of stories behind
the constellations. Take a look.
One of my favorite pasttimes is to go outside at night and stare up at
the stars. My fascination with the night sky, trying to learn the
constellations, caused a great interest in me to learn the myths and
stories behind the constellations. I don't have much here yet, but I
hope to have more myths and legends here in the future. For now, here's
a few links that I found to other sites that have information on
mythology.
- Mythology
in Western Art. There's lots of gifs here to grab based on the
Olympian gods.
- This site has mostly Hercules
stories.
- MYTHTEXT,
home of the Rough and Ready Guide to the Gods, a huge listing of dieties
from around the world. Also has pointers to find various mythological
works on the Net.
- A site with classic works,
including the Iliad and the Aeneid.
- A site with various information on Greek
mythology. I rather like his family trees.
- Myths &
Legends. Appears to be based for children. Basic info, lots of
graphics, and a bewildering structure.
- The
Ancient World Web, a compendium of sites about ancient times,
including some about mythology.
- Island, a site that has
info on the folklore and mythology of Ireland.
- Have you heard of the syndicated television program, Hercules: The Legendary
Journeys? Well, they've got a Web site that, along with info about
the show, also has some brief information about some of the Greek gods.
- Myths and
Legends. This site is something akin to this page, only bigger and
more diverse. Lots of links to sites around the Web.
- A work in progress, but one that I'm anxious to see
finished, Classical
Mythology HQ. Some of the links still don't have anything associated
with them, but others do, so try everything!
- The mythical merfolk have found a home at Sea Tails
Online.
- Egyptian
Mythology FAQ.
- alt.mythology, the newsgroup
dedicated to this very topic.
Here's a few others that I thought interesting, but they don't quite
deal with mythology. Consider this the miscellaneous catagory.
I'm working on trying to find others. If you know of any WWW sites on
mythology that I don't have listed, please let me know! My email
address is jmilne@iastate.edu
